Temporary housing

Temporary Housing for Expats Netherlands

Most relocations have a gap: you have a start date at work but no home yet, or your household goods are somewhere on a ship while you are already here. Temporary housing bridges that gap, and doing it well makes the difference between arriving stressed and arriving settled.

We arrange short-stay apartments and serviced housing that are actually livable: furnished, connected, in a neighborhood you will enjoy, and wherever possible with the option to register your address. And because arrivals rarely happen between nine and five, our personal WhatsApp line stays open around the clock, so a delayed flight or a lockbox that will not open never leaves you stranded.

Who this is for

  • New arrivals whose job starts before their housing search ends
  • Families bridging the gap until their long-term home is ready
  • Professionals on assignments of two to twelve months
  • Anyone between homes after a sale, renovation or contract end

Conditions

Short stay, in practice

A temporary base is a bridge, and bridges are worth choosing carefully. These are the conditions that decide whether yours works.

  • Short-stay rentals typically run from one to six months and cost more per month than a standard lease, often thirty to fifty percent more.
  • Registration at the address is only possible where both the landlord and the municipality permit it, and many short-stay addresses do not.
  • Without registration there is no BSN, which delays health insurance, banking and in some cases salary payment.
  • Most short-stay properties are furnished with utilities and internet included, but cleaning and linen often are not.
  • Minimum stays, cancellation terms and deposits vary widely between operators and are rarely negotiable.
  • We place clients only in properties we would use ourselves, and decline operators whose contracts we do not trust.

What is included

Matched short-stay options

A curated selection of serviced apartments and short-stay homes that fit your budget, dates and commute, not a generic booking list.

Registration check

Where you need a BSN, we prioritize addresses where municipal registration is allowed and confirm it in writing.

Booking and contract handling

We negotiate the terms, review the short-stay agreement and make sure the notice period matches your real timeline.

Arrival-ready handover

Keys, utilities, internet and house instructions arranged so the place works from the first evening.

Bridge to permanent housing

Your temporary stay plugs straight into our housing search, so the long-term hunt starts the day you land.

What temporary housing support costs

Available upon request

Temporary housing depends entirely on how long you need it, for how many people and at what notice. You receive a fixed quotation once we know the dates.

  • Serviced apartments and short-stay options matched to your dates
  • Terms checked so a short stay does not block your municipality registration
  • Coordination between the temporary address and the permanent search
  • Handover arranged when the permanent home is ready

Using the bridge properly

Can I register at a short-stay address?

Sometimes, and it changes everything. We filter for registration-friendly properties from the start, because a base that allows registration lets your BSN, insurance and salary run from week one instead of month three. Where registration is impossible we plan around it deliberately rather than discover it late.

How long should I book for?

Six to ten weeks suits most arrivals. It gives the permanent search room to breathe without paying the short-stay premium longer than necessary, and most operators will extend if the search runs on.

Is a hotel cheaper?

For under three weeks, often yes. Beyond that, short-stay apartments win on both cost and sanity, particularly for families. The tipping point usually falls around the third week.

What about belongings arriving from abroad?

Short-stay contracts rarely include storage. We coordinate your shipment against the permanent address rather than the temporary one, and arrange storage in the region when the timings will not meet.

Frequently asked questions

Can I register for my BSN at a temporary address?

At many short-stay addresses yes, and we treat it as a priority filter when you need registration for your BSN, insurance or bank account. We confirm the registration policy with each provider before you book.

Is temporary housing furnished?

Almost always fully furnished, including linen, kitchenware, internet and utilities in one price. That premium is exactly what you are paying for: walking in with a suitcase and living normally that same night.

What if my pet is arriving with me?

Pet-friendly short-stay housing exists but is scarce, so tell us early. We approach pet-tolerant providers directly rather than gambling on a booking platform checkbox.
