Not every journey to the Netherlands is a move. Deals get signed, ports get inspected, partnerships get built, and for many nationalities that requires a short-stay Schengen visa: up to 90 days within any 180-day period, for business purposes.

What is a business visa?
A business visa is a short-stay Schengen visa, type C, for meetings, negotiations, conferences and site visits. It allows up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen area, and it does not permit you to take up employment in the Netherlands.
Nationals of many countries need one before travelling; others are visa-exempt for short stays. The application is decided by the consulate on the strength of the invitation, your travel history, insurance and evidence that you will return, which is why the supporting file matters more than the form.

What this visa does and does not allow
The limits matter more than the requirements here, because using this visa for the wrong activity puts both the traveller and the Dutch host at risk.
- A maximum of ninety days of stay within any one hundred and eighty day period across the Schengen area.
- Meetings, negotiations, training, trade fairs and site visits are permitted. Paid work in the Netherlands is not.
- A formal invitation from the Dutch host company is required, and the host may be asked to accept liability for costs.
- Travel medical insurance with at least 30,000 euro of cover, valid throughout Schengen, is mandatory.
- Proof of accommodation, return travel and sufficient means for the stay must be provided.
- File at the Dutch mission only if the Netherlands is your main destination, otherwise the application belongs to the country where you spend most time.

Getting a stronger decision
Why are business visas refused?
Almost always for one of three reasons: the purpose of travel is not credible in the documents, the applicant cannot show sufficient ties to their home country, or earlier Schengen travel was used improperly. All three are file problems, and all three can be addressed before submission.
How do we get a multi-entry visa?
Multi-entry visas of one to five years go to applicants with a clean Schengen travel history and a demonstrable ongoing business relationship. We structure the file so the recurring pattern is visible in the evidence rather than requested as a favour.
How far ahead should we apply?
Applications can be filed up to six months before travel and no later than fifteen days before. Consulate appointment availability is the real constraint, and in busy regions and peak season slots can be six weeks out. Tell us the date early.
Our specialist needs to work on site. Is this the right visa?
No. Installing equipment, delivering a project or performing services for a Dutch client is work, and needs a work-based permit or a notification under the posted workers rules. Using a business visa for it exposes your company and your employee. We will tell you which instrument actually applies.

Can I visit other Schengen countries on this visa?
Yes. A Schengen visa allows travel throughout the Schengen area, but you should apply through the Netherlands when it is your main destination.
What if a previous application was refused?
A refusal is not the end. We analyse the stated grounds, repair the weak points in the file and structure the reapplication accordingly.
